APFED II Second Plenary Meeting
The Second Plenary Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Environment and Development: Second Phase (APFEDII) was held in Adelaide, Australia from 31 July - 1 August 2006. A total of 53 APFED members, observers, government officials and NGO and private sector representatives attended the meeting.

As part of the APFED Knowledge Initiative, the Ryutaro Hashimoto APFED Awards Committee made the final selection of prizes for 2006 and the award ceremony was held at the meeting. The Gold Prize was awarded to Kokonut Pacific Ltd. from the Solomon Islands who have rehabilitated their rural economy through virgin coconut oil production.

The participants also welcomed a proposal put forward by the Secretariat to further institutionalise NetRes and invigorate its activities. Heads and representatives of the five research institutes - KEI, TEI, SIIA, TERI and IGES - signed the Instrument of Establishment for NetRes (IoE) that has been proposed as an Asia-Pacific Network of Strategic Policy Research Institutes on the Environment and Sustainable Development. The aforementioned representatives of five institutes also signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate concrete collaboration in supporting NetRes activities.
