APFED I activities
APFED first phase (FY2001-2004)
APFED formulated its message to the WSSD in May, 2002. In the message, APFED commits to launch the three new partnership initiatives: collection and analysis of best policy practices related to actions recommended in the message, development of a network of researchers and research institutions to create an inventory, inventory of capacity building programmes in Asia and the Pacific region and to disseminate findings.

The Fourth Substantive Meeting was held in Ulaanbaartar, Mongolia in August 2003. At the meeting, participants discussed the Zero Draft of the APFED Final Report, and the progress made on APFED Commitments was also reported. The Fifth Substantive Meeting was held in May 2004 in Astana, Kazakhstan, to discuss the First Draft of the APFED Final Report, as well as the action plan and the executive summary. The meeting was preceded by an expert meeting to discuss the current state of the environment in Kazakhstan. The Sixth Substantive Meeting was held in December 2004 in Tokyo, preceded by two drafting meetings in Iran and Australia during the summer of 2004. At the meeting, the Final Report was adopted.

The final report was published in early 2005 and presented to the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific (MCED), March 2005, organised by ESCAP.
